Cold War heats up in the Syrian desert

Whose interest are we supporrting in the shootdown of a Syrian fighter? Look at what the issue is all about: Iran wants a land corridor across Syria to facilitate supply to Hezbollah units near the Mediterranean coast, Israel wants to prevent this, so a patch of otherwise useless desert in eastern Syria becomes strategic.

Question: is it worth risking a nuclear war with Russia because Israel tells us to?
