Here’s our friend Robert Reich again with an interesting new take on what’s happening in contemporary American politics. My take on his analysis is as follows: the current high employment rate has had the most impact on white American workers who don’t have college degrees. Not that other groups haven’t been hurt, but this group is where the most change for the worse has been felt. Sarah Palin is driving her political juggernaut straight at this group and is exploiting their relative lack of education as well as their pain to build a constituency that could prove formidable or perhaps even unstoppable in 2012. Meanwhile the regular Republican party organization people are about as bewildered and hapless in the face of her flank attack as the Democrats have been rendered by the Republican take no prisoner strategy.
This should be high comedy. Too bad it’s a tragedy.
